Lee Jae-myung "Will Do My Best with a Lower Stance"... Gyeonggi Primary 59.29% Bright Signal for Direct Advancement to General Election (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential primary candidate, achieved a majority landslide victory with nearly 60% of the votes (59.29%) in the Gyeonggi region primary, his 'political hometown,' on the 9th.
With only the Seoul region primary and the 3rd national and general party member electorate voting left on the 10th, Lee is evaluated to have crossed the '9th milestone' to directly advance to the final election without a runoff. On the day, Lee secured 56,820 votes (59.29%) out of 95,841 valid votes in the Gyeonggi region primary held at the Suwon Convention Center in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, ranking first. Candidate Lee Nak-yeon received 29,248 votes (30.52%), placing second.
Lee Jae-myung's cumulative primary vote share rose to 55.29%, widening the gap with second-place Lee Nak-yeon (33.99%).
After the joint speech, Lee told reporters, “(Tomorrow's Seoul primary) I will do my best with a humbler attitude.” Regarding the Daejang-dong preferential treatment allegations, he said, “Politics is not made by a few politicians or some forces attempting fake news and public opinion distortion,” adding, “The people always listen and communicate with 100 million eyes and ears and 50 million mouths, so they will judge much more rationally.”
Regarding the post-primary one-team system, he said, “We are not playing an individual game but a team game with teammates, so once positions are set, we will do our best for our team's victory.”
