Prosecutors Request Passport Cancellation for 'Daejang-dong Keyman' Nam Wook... Ministry of Foreign Affairs Reviewing
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has officially begun procedures to summon Nam Wook, a key figure implicated in the Daejang-dong development lobbying and preferential treatment allegations, including canceling his passport.
According to the legal community on the 8th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's dedicated investigation team recently requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cancel Nam's passport while he is staying in the United States.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, upon receiving the request, is reportedly reviewing whether it can invalidate Nam's passport based on the Passport Act.
Nam Wook, the actual owner of Cheonhwa-dongin No. 4, a subsidiary of Hwacheon Daeyu, has been identified as the person who led the Daejang-dong development project since 2009. After the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) abandoned public development, he purchased surrounding land for private development and persuaded landowners.
