On the morning of the 7th, Jeonnam Superintendent of Education Jang Seok-woong held a non-face-to-face briefing via YouTube (Jeonnam Education TV) in the main conference room of the office building, announcing the results of the new designation of Future Integrated Operation Schools and the selection of target schools for the 2022 Green Smart Future Schools project.
The Office of Education announced the preliminary designation of six schools in five regions as integrated operation schools: Gwangyang Jinwol Elementary and Middle Schools, Boseong Joseong Elementary and Middle Schools, Boseong Hoecheon Elementary and Middle Schools, Jangheung Yongsan Elementary and Middle Schools, Muan Mongtan Elementary and Middle Schools, and Wando Cheongsan Elementary and Middle Schools.
Additionally, the selection results and implementation plans for next year’s Green Smart Future Schools project were disclosed, targeting a total of 39 schools and 57 buildings (23 schools and 29 buildings for reconstruction, 22 schools and 28 buildings for remodeling) to be developed as cutting-edge and eco-friendly future schools.
The newly designated schools are expected to make a fresh start as Future Integrated Operation Schools as early as March 2023, after undergoing related administrative procedures, preliminary planning and design for space innovation, and facility construction.
The Future Integrated Operation Schools will be equipped with state-of-the-art educational environments linked with the Green Smart Future Schools project to realize the purpose of focusing on students’ growth and life, fostering individual competencies, and creating a democratic school culture where the educational community participates together.
The total project cost is 268 billion KRW, of which 70% (189 billion KRW) will be covered by local government funds and 30% (including 79 billion KRW in national funds) by the central government.
Among the target schools this time, one private school (remodeling) is included, and from 2023, considering the equity between public and private schools, the Office plans to urge the Ministry of Education to allow private schools to choose between reconstruction and remodeling for the project type.
These schools will conduct preliminary planning services involving users from October to February next year, followed by design for creating future educational spaces for each school, with construction expected to be completed by December 2024.
