Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok: "Naju Will Be Made the Genuine Energy Capital"
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, visited Naju on the 6th and said during a dialogue with residents, “Korea Energy Engineering University is the nation’s first public special-purpose university. Centered around this, we will attract companies and research institutes to create jobs and support startups, revitalizing the entire city of Naju.”
He continued, “We will officially open the Energy Engineering University and work to attract the ‘Ultra-High Power Laser Research Facility,’ a national large-scale research facility with a total project cost of 1 trillion won, to create future new industries in the Honam region, making Naju the undisputed energy capital of South Korea.”
He also mentioned the ‘Namdo Uibyung History Museum,’ currently under construction in Gongsan-myeon, Naju, with a total project cost of 44 billion won, scheduled for completion by 2024.
Governor Kim stated, “We will spare no administrative and financial support to build it as a premium museum representing Korea’s Uibyung (righteous army) and serving as a regional landmark. Additionally, in cooperation with the Office of Education, we will strive to attract group visitors such as school trip groups, soldiers, and public officials, as well as domestic and international events related to Uibyung, contributing to tourism revitalization.”
Regarding the ‘Gwangju-Naju Metropolitan Railroad’ project connecting Gwangju and Naju, he explained, “Following its recent inclusion in the national plan, it has been selected as a key leading project for metropolitan railroads outside the capital area, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to commission a preliminary feasibility study. We are working together with Naju City to accelerate the project, aiming to pass the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance by next year.”
Concerning the Daehodong Daehosu Waterfront Park tourism resource development project proposed by Naju City, he said, “We will actively support the maintenance of existing aging facilities and ensure the smooth establishment of the waterfront ecological park, walking trails, and rest areas.”
The dialogue with residents was conducted in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, with participation from Governor Kim Young-rok, Naju Mayor Kang In-gyu, Provincial Assembly member Choi Myung-soo, Naju City Council Chairman Kim Young-deok, city council members, and senior officials from Jeonnam Province and Naju City.

About 150 citizens, including Chae Seong-geun, Chairman of the Naju Citizen Communication Committee, and Oh Seon-jong, Chairman of the Gongsan-myeon Village Leaders Association, participated in the dialogue with residents via online broadcast.
