BBQ Loses Second Trial in 1.2 Billion KRW Compensation Lawsuit Against bhc
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Genesis BBQ lost a lawsuit on the 6th in which it claimed approximately 1.2 billion KRW in damages against bhc.
The Seoul High Court Civil Division 20-1 ruled against the plaintiff in the damages claim lawsuit filed by BBQ against bhc in December 2017. BBQ, which lost the first trial on May 14 last year, appealed, but the ruling was not overturned on this day.
BBQ had argued that after the 2013 sale and separation from bhc, an inventory check of BBQ goods stored at bhc's Gwangju and Jeju logistics centers revealed discrepancies between the book inventory and the actual inventory, and that the difference of about 1.2 billion KRW was intentionally lost by bhc, thus bhc should bear civil liability for damages.

Regarding this, the first trial court stated, "Regarding the BBQ product inventory stored at bhc's logistics centers at the time of the sale and separation, both companies agreed to determine the inventory level based on the results of an inventory survey conducted by an independent third party," and judged, "Even if there is a discrepancy between BBQ's book inventory and actual quantity, responsibility cannot be imposed on bhc."
