Haenam-gun Produces High-Quality Cabbage Using Beneficial Microorganisms
Agricultural Technology Center Provides Free Supply of Eco-friendly Microbial BT Strain and BM Activated Water
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun is supplying BT bacteria and BM activated water, eco-friendly microorganisms, free of charge to cabbage-producing farms as the cabbage enters its main growth period.
According to the county on the 6th, BT bacteria are microorganisms that produce insecticidal toxins, acting only on insects and serving as a natural pesticide harmless to humans, livestock, and plants.
It is especially effective against Lepidoptera, showing excellent results in controlling cabbage moths and other pests at the larval stage.
BT bacteria are most effective when diluted 200 to 500 times and sprayed using sprinklers from early October, the cabbage heading period, when moth larvae appear.
The total supply is 3 tons, enough for 600 hectares, cultured at the Agricultural Technology Center's eco-friendly microorganism cultivation facility and provided free of charge. The county plans to provide education on BT bacteria usage and produce and supply additional amounts depending on farmers' demand.
Additionally, BM activated water, which promotes soil microorganism activity and improves soil conditions, will be supplied to aid in producing high-quality cabbage.
BM activated water is extracted and concentrated from natural minerals in rocks and contains abundant nutrients beneficial to living organisms, known to be effective in improving soft rot symptoms in cabbage stems and leaves.
Haenam-gun has installed BM activated water production facilities within the Agricultural Technology Center and produces 3 tons daily, supplying it free to farmers.
Any Haenam residents can visit the Agricultural Technology Center to receive useful microorganisms and BM activated water free of charge.
If there are any questions about how to use the useful microorganisms or utilize BM activated water, inquiries can be made to the Specialized Crop Team of the Technology Extension Division at the Agricultural Technology Center.
