Jeonbuk Province Selected for Geumgang Watershed Special Support Project Competition
Promotion of Eco-friendly Fuel Supply Project in Muju-gun and Water Supply Project in Jinan-gun
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 6th that Jinan-gun and Muju-gun were selected in the 2022 Geumgang Watershed Special Support Project contest, securing 1.289 billion KRW in national funding.
The Geumgang Watershed Special Support Project is a policy aimed at improving water quality in water source management areas and enhancing residents' welfare.
A total of seven new projects were selected for the 2022 Geumgang Watershed Special Support Project, of which two projects from Jeonbuk, Jinan-gun and Muju-gun, were included.
Notably, the national funding secured by Jeonbuk Province accounts for nearly 41% of the total project cost (3.15 billion KRW).
Muju-gun, selected in this contest, will supply eco-friendly fuel (LPG) to Jeondo Village in Muju-eup, an upstream area of the Yongdam Dam surrounded by mountains and rivers, where basic environmental infrastructure is lacking and residents face inconveniences.
This is expected to alleviate residents' fuel cost burdens and contribute to natural environment preservation by reducing air pollutants through the supply of clean fuel.
Additionally, Jinan-gun will supply tap water to Wonsu-dong Village, located within 1 km of the Yongdam Dam reservoir and the only village in Sangjeon-myeon without tap water supply.
This will enable residents, previously exposed to water pollution, to access safe and clean water from Yongdam Lake.
Meanwhile, Jeonbuk Province has been promoting welfare improvement and water quality enhancement projects for residents in the waterfront areas of Jinan-gun, Muju-gun, and Jangsu-gun as part of the Geumgang Watershed Special Support Project over the past five years.
