Korea Forest Service Selects and Supports 17 Sites for Next Year’s ‘Mugunghwa Dongsan’ Project

View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced on the 5th that it has selected 17 sites nationwide as locations for the Mugunghwa Garden creation project next year.
The Mugunghwa Garden creation project has been implemented since 2010 to provide citizens with easy access to Mugunghwa in their living areas and to raise public interest in the national flower, Mugunghwa.
The sites selected for next year's project include 15 local governments: ▲Songpa-gu, Seoul ▲Jung-gu, Incheon ▲Seo-gu, Daejeon ▲Gangseo-gu, Busan ▲Namyangju, Gyeonggi ▲Yanggu-gun, Gangwon ▲Asan-si, Chungnam ▲Eumseong and Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk ▲Namwon and Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk ▲Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam ▲Goseong and Tongyeong-si, Gyeongnam ▲Gunwi-gun, Gyeongbuk, as well as 2 affiliated institutions of the Korea Forest Service.
The Korea Forest Service plans to provide 50 million KRW in national funds to local governments and 100 million KRW to affiliated institutions for these Mugunghwa Garden creation sites.
Meanwhile, 32 sites including local governments nationwide and affiliated institutions of the Korea Forest Service applied for this year's project.
The Korea Forest Service comprehensively evaluated the submitted application documents and status data from the applicants based on factors such as potential for becoming a landmark, suitability of growth environment, accessibility, and previous support for Mugunghwa Gardens to select the final sites.

Kim Ju-yeol, Director of the Urban Forest Landscape Division at the Korea Forest Service, said, “We hope that the creation of Mugunghwa Gardens in living areas will allow citizens to see and enjoy Mugunghwa up close,” and added, “The Korea Forest Service will continue to promote the distribution and advancement projects of Mugunghwa so that it can be loved by the public.”
