Driver Leaves Scene Leaving Car Despite Victim's Protest After Rear-End Collision, Sentenced to Prison
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A driver who caused a traffic accident and left the scene without providing personal information despite protests from the victim was sentenced to prison.
On the 4th, Judge Jeong Hyun-soo of Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 8 announced that Mr. A was sentenced to 10 months in prison for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, among other charges.
Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of fleeing the scene after colliding with another vehicle while driving on a road in Ulsan last March, injuring the other driver, Mr. B.
Mr. B, who was involved in the accident, honked loudly, but Mr. A drove about 40 meters further before stopping the car. While Mr. B approached to protest and inspect the accident scene, Mr. A left the scene on foot without providing his personal information, leaving the car behind. Mr. B received two weeks of medical treatment for his injuries.

Judge Jeong stated, "Mr. A has a history of multiple punishments for drunk driving, and considering the circumstances indicating the smell of alcohol at the time of this accident, drunk driving is strongly suspected."
