Hong Jun-pyo "From Feminism to Humanism, Familism"... Announces Women's Policy Pledge
Emphasis on Gender Equality Policies Without Sex Discrimination
"Men's Dissatisfaction Reaches Its Peak" Awareness Among Supporters
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Hong Jun-pyo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced his policy pledges on women and population, aiming to win the hearts of female voters. He emphasized the need for 'humanism' and 'familism' instead of feminism, focusing on gender equality policies through resolving gender conflicts.
On the 1st, Hong held a press conference at his campaign office located in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, unveiling his women and population policy pledges under the slogan "From feminism to humanism, from feminism to familism."
He stated, "Women’s policies should center on the value of family and the restoration of community," adding, "I will implement genuine gender equality policies without discrimination or reverse discrimination."
As part of 'humanism,' Hong announced plans to integrate the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family with other ministries and abolish quota systems to realize a fair society.
He also pledged to enforce chemical castration on heinous and habitual sex offenders and strengthen the effectiveness of the electronic monitoring bracelet system to create a safe society free from violence.
Under the 'familism' policy, he revealed plans to reorganize birth and population policies through the '2050 Hope Plan.' The central government will manage these policies to improve budget efficiency and consolidate various subsidies and allowances to provide direct support to parents of children up to 12 years old.
He also introduced ideas to alleviate childcare and education burdens by expanding public daycare centers, supporting all-day care for elementary students, and increasing after-school programs.
To support women who have experienced career interruptions due to childbirth and childcare, he promised to expand re-education programs.
However, after the announcement, Hong emphasized in a meeting with reporters that he remains mindful of his core support base, men in their 20s and 30s. He explained, "Due to gender sensitivity, Supreme Court rulings have caused dissatisfaction among men, especially those in their 20s and 30s, to reach a peak. Also, the status of women has changed drastically compared to the past. That is why I proposed moving from feminism to humanism, from feminism to familism."
