Seoul Facilities Corporation Replaces LED Lights on Olympic-daero and Naebu Sunhwan-ro... Partial Traffic Control
Replacement Work for 2,293 Lights on 4 Expressway Routes
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 1st that it will carry out construction to replace old road lighting facilities with LED lights on some sections of four expressways, including Olympic-daero and Naebu Sunhwan-ro, until December 7.
The lighting replacement work targets sections of Naebu Sunhwan-ro (Seongsan JC to Seongdong JC), Dongbu Ganseon-ro (Cheongdam Bridge to Suseo IC), Olympic-daero (Banpo Underpass), and Gangbyeonbuk-ro (Han River East Side Underpass). During construction, one lane of the two-way carriageway will be partially closed.
The replacement includes a total of 2,293 lights: 1,993 streetlights on the roads and 300 lights in the underpasses. The existing metal halide lights, which have exceeded their durability due to long installation periods, will be removed and replaced with long-lasting and highly efficient LED lights. Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce nighttime driving fatigue, enhance driving safety, and achieve energy savings.
The lighting replacement work will partially close one lane of the target sections from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, the Banpo Underpass on Olympic-daero and the Han River East Side Underpass on Gangbyeonbuk-ro will undergo nighttime work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.
The corporation requested drivers to reduce speed when passing nearby, as the lamp replacement is manually performed on facilities up to 12 meters high on the road.
