MFDS: Dunkin' Donuts Caught Violating 'Food Sanitation Act'... Administrative Action Requested
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The Dunkin' Donuts production factory, which became controversial after a video showing unsanitary management of donut manufacturing facilities was released, is expected to face administrative sanctions.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 30th that it received information that the manufacturing facilities of 'Dunkin' Donuts' were being managed unsanitarily, and after investigating the manufacturer, violations of the 'Food Sanitation Act' were detected, such as some facilities not being properly cleaned, and requested administrative sanctions from the relevant local government.
KBS released a video the previous day showing hygiene issues at the 'BR Korea Anyang Factory' located in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, including yellow foreign substances falling into the dough.
In response, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety conducted hygiene guidance, inspections, and a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) evaluation over two days starting the previous day. Based on the content of the reported video filmed twice this summer, they focused on investigating violations of the 'Standards for Hygienic Handling of Food, etc.', hazard analysis, critical control point (CCP) monitoring, and compliance with HACCP standards such as education and training.
As a result, violations of hygienic handling standards for some foods were confirmed, including unsanitary conditions under the food transfer rails. Additionally, the HACCP evaluation revealed inadequate cleaning and disinfection of manufacturing equipment this year as well as last year, and during this inspection, further issues such as insufficient foreign substance prevention management and raw material storage management were identified, resulting in a nonconformance judgment.
Based on these inspection results, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has expanded hygiene guidance, inspections, and HACCP evaluations to other Dunkin' Donuts manufacturing facilities. The relevant local governments will impose administrative sanctions on the detected violations of the Food Sanitation Act and will reinspect within three months to verify whether the violations have been corrected. For HACCP nonconformance results, re-evaluation will be conducted after the company completes corrective actions.
