Gurye Arboretum, Autumn Cherry Blossoms Signaling the Start of Fall
Visitors Captivated by Unique Scenery
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] The beautiful autumn cherry blossoms have bloomed at Gurye Arboretum, operated by Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Soon-ho), creating a unique scenery.
On the 30th, Gurye-gun announced that while cherry blossoms are generally thought of as a symbol of bright spring sunshine, the cherry blossoms blooming at Gurye Arboretum bloom brilliantly under the autumn sun, captivating visitors' attention like heralds of autumn.
The shyly blooming autumn cherry trees, embracing the autumn breeze, are the main attraction.
Autumn cherry trees are also called spring-autumn cherry trees because they can be seen blooming in both spring and autumn. They were first introduced to Korea in 1978 when they came from Hiller Farm in the UK to Cheollipo Arboretum.
Compared to regular cherry blossoms, the flower clusters are slightly smaller and have a pink double-flower form. Their rarity and beauty have been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society in the UK, awarding them the AGM (Award of Garden Merit).
It is often thought that the flowers bloom twice a year because the first bloom appears again, but in fact, they bloom continuously from autumn through the following spring, making the blooming period very long.
In places where winters are relatively warm, you can see autumn cherry blossoms even in the snow, further enhancing their charm.
Additionally, various flowers signaling autumn are preparing to welcome visitors at Gurye Arboretum. ▲The layered purple tower-like Deutzia ▲The flower of tender love, Sedum ▲The autumn-scented and pure Crocus ▲The Aster that makes the light purple under the autumn sunlight unforgettable, all help visitors forget the memories of the past hot summer.
Kim Soon-ho, Governor of Gurye-gun, said, “I hope visitors can feel the autumn atmosphere and have a healing time at Gurye Arboretum, which is establishing itself as a new tourist destination in Gurye.”
Meanwhile, Gurye Arboretum, which is becoming a new tourist attraction in Gurye, is the only public arboretum in Jeollanam-do, consisting of 13 themed gardens with 1148 species and 130,000 plants planted over a forest area of 54 hectares.
Since its official opening on May 15, the number of tourists visiting Gurye has been steadily increasing.
