Hamyang-gun Establishes Social Safety Net for Elderly Living Alone... Promotes Emergency Safety and Security Service
Strengthening the Social Safety Net for Isolated Elderly in Preparation for the With-Corona Era
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 29th that it will expand the emergency safety and security service project for elderly living alone to establish a dense social safety net for the increasing number of elderly living alone.
The emergency safety and security service for elderly living alone, operated directly by the county, expanded from 150 households last year to 444 households in the first half of this year, and plans to newly supply 340 households in the second half. Additional supply is planned for next year as well.
The county will support a more thorough service by newly installing next-generation in-home equipment integrated with the latest ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to minimize safety blind spots such as preventing solitary deaths in elderly living alone households.
The newly introduced next-generation in-home equipment consists of a total of five devices including a tablet PC-based gateway, emergency call device, fire detector, and activity detector. In case of emergencies such as fire, accidents, or illnesses occurring in the elderly’s home, it is linked in real-time to the 119 Safety Center, and through project personnel (emergency management staff and life support workers), more thorough services and follow-up care are provided.
A county official stated, “We will continue to supply the emergency safety and security service in-home equipment to ensure there are no safety blind spots,” and added, “We ask that you actively recommend households in need of constant care in the vicinity.”
