View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 29th that the construction project of the Southern Bypass Road (Songjeong~Daepyeong section) was included in the '5th Five-Year National Road Construction Plan' deliberated and approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Road Policy Deliberation Committee.
The Southern Bypass Road (Songjeong~Daepyeong section) construction project is a bypass road of National Road No. 24, forming a circular road traffic network connecting Seogyeong Hospital in Songjeong-ri, Geochang-eup, near the Provincial Geochang University, and Daepyeong-ri Geochang IC. The entire project cost of 43.9 billion KRW will be covered by national funds.
The Southern Bypass Road has been needed since the Ministry of Land's announcement in 1967 to alleviate traffic inconvenience and promote balanced development due to increased traffic volume in the urban area. However, it has been repeatedly postponed because the daily traffic volume was below the national road traffic volume criteria.
Since taking office, Governor Gu In-mo has visited central government departments and Gyeongnam Province several times to fulfill the promises of the 7th local government term, steadily persuading the necessity of the project from the perspective of balanced development. After more than three years of effort, he achieved the fruition of a 54-year-old aspiration.

Governor Gu In-mo said, “We will expand the outer ring road of Geochang-eup by promoting the Manmang Square and Geochang IC gateway improvement project, as well as the Geoyeolsanseong access road connected to the Southern Bypass Road.” He added, “We will build high-quality construction infrastructure for greater Geochang leaps through improved transportation conditions across the river and north-south and balanced regional development.”
