Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Open '2021 Misuljugan' on Next Month 7th
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 29th that it will hold the ‘2021 Art Week’ from October 7 to 17 in collaboration with the Arts Management Support Center and over 300 exhibition institutions nationwide.
This year, under the theme ‘A Week to Enjoy Art,’ a variety of programs will be presented with the hope that people exhausted by COVID-19 will discover the comfort and joy that art brings in their daily lives.
Among the Art Week programs, the ‘Art Travel,’ which has shown high satisfaction every year, will be operated this year in 17 routes across six regions: Seoul, Incheon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Jeju. This program allows participants to view exhibitions at galleries and public and private art museums with professional guides, and for participants’ safety, it will be conducted in small groups of fewer than 10 people per route.
Twenty-one art institutions selected through a public contest will present the audience participation program ‘Beyond Exhibition.’ Various programs that allow the public to enjoy art in a friendly manner, such as creative workshops to make their own artworks and talks with artists, will be offered free of charge.
This year’s ‘Art Week’ has selected ‘Photography’ as a specialized field to be intensively introduced. Exhibitions such as Ilmin Museum of Art’s ‘Super Fine: Exhibition of Light Photography’ and photography exhibitions at specialized art museums including the Hanmi Photo Museum will be showcased. An online forum titled ‘Photography as a Journey or Milestone in the Digital Age’ will also be held in October via the official YouTube channel of the Arts Management Support Center.
To allow people to view exhibitions without visiting the venues directly amid the COVID-19 situation, artworks and others will be produced as online virtual reality (VR) and presented on the website. A total of 17 institutions are participating, providing 360-degree shots of exhibition halls along with high-resolution images of artworks and exhibition explanations so that audiences can immerse themselves in the experience.
On Naver Now’s ‘Vogue Sip Show’ channel, Monsta X’s Minhyuk will introduce the Art Week program at 11 p.m. on October 6. The official Art Week Instagram will offer an augmented reality (AR) filter decorated with artworks, holding an online event titled ‘Decorate My Face with Artworks!’ where participants can take special photos and submit them via social media.
