Construction sites, which were often met with resistance due to safety warnings and restricted access, are now captivating passersby as their fences are turned into street galleries.
A prime example is POSCO Engineering & Construction's 'With POSCO Street Gallery.' As part of its Miso (美所) project, POSCO E&C is transforming construction site fences into galleries with four different themes to realize shared value.
Moving away from the previously bleak fences designed mainly with safety slogans and company logos, the company is applying designs that resonate with local residents and workers, allowing them to enjoy the space together, thereby making construction sites more pleasant and secure.
The first theme features works by a foot-painter who, despite physical disabilities, writes messages of hope using their mouth and toes. POSCO E&C has expanded the scope of the foot-painter’s artistic activities and created a space that can inspire local residents.
The second theme showcases artworks from an on-site drawing contest held for elementary school students nearby. POSCO E&C organized the contest with the environment as the theme, exhibiting works that reflect the thoughts of the future generation’s dreamers.
The artworks by students of Songwon Elementary School in Songdo, displayed on the fences at the second phase of the Incheon Songdo Korean-American Town site, have received enthusiastic responses from local residents, parents, and students alike.

Recently installed on the fences at 'The Sharp Jinju Pierrete' site in Jinju, Gyeongnam, residents shared various comments such as, "It really feels like walking through a forest," and "This fence design suits the eco-friendly era."
The final theme is an emotional care safety poster designed to be warmly received by foreign workers.
Posters created in the languages of the five countries with a high proportion of workers (China, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia) feature local landmarks as backgrounds and depict messages of love from children to their fathers, encouraging workers to think of home and pay closer attention to safety in an emotional way.
