Fire at Cheongyang Aekyung Chemical Plant... No Casualties or Hazardous Substance Leakage Reported
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] At around 6:10 PM on the 27th, a fire broke out at Aekyung Chemical Plant in Jeongsan-myeon, Cheongyang-gun, Chungnam, and was extinguished after about 1 hour and 37 minutes.
The fire occurred due to an abnormal reaction of unknown cause during the process of melting unsaturated polyester resin, which is the fuel used to make bathtubs and other items.
The Cheongyang Fire Station and the provincial fire headquarters responded immediately upon receiving the fire report by deploying all fire station personnel and declaring Response Level 1 to suppress the fire. Cheongyang-gun also sent disaster alert messages to nearby residents, advising them to close windows and stay indoors in preparation for any possible chemical leakage.
Fortunately, except for the container holding the fuel, the fire did not spread to surrounding buildings, preventing a large-scale fire, and Response Level 1 was lifted. There were no casualties from the fire, and no hazardous chemical leakage was confirmed.
