Leading Climate and Environmental Scholars Gather to Declare Strengthening 'Team Korea-Based Climate Change Cooperation'
Ministry of Environment Holds 'Korea's International Leadership Seminar on Climate Change Response'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] On the 28th, climate and environmental scholars will gather in one place to announce the 'Climate Change Response Cooperation Declaration.'
The Ministry of Environment announced on the 27th that it will hold the 'Korea's International Leadership Seminar for Climate Change Response' with climate and environmental scholars from Korea, together with the National Assembly Water Forum and the Asia Water Council, at the Shilla Hotel located in Jung-gu, Seoul, and plans to announce the climate crisis response cooperation declaration.
This event was prepared to discuss Korea's role in responding to the climate crisis amid the international community's full-scale response to the climate crisis, such as the introduction of the European Union (EU)'s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) after the launch of the new climate regime, focusing on ▲carbon neutrality in the water sector ▲implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) ▲ESG (environment, social, governance).
The event will begin with an opening address by Minister Han Jeong-ae of the Ministry of Environment, followed by welcoming remarks from Byun Jae-il, a member of the National Assembly of the Democratic Party of Korea and president of the National Assembly Water Forum, Choi Jong-moon, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Park Jae-hyun, chairman of the Asia Water Council (President of Korea Water Resources Corporation).
Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute, will deliver a keynote speech introducing his experience in leading the conclusion of the 2015 Paris Agreement during his tenure as the 8th UN Secretary-General, and will present the roles and responsibilities of the government, policy research institutions, and the private sector in leading the international community's response to the climate crisis.
In particular, the Korean climate and environmental scholars gathered on this day plan to strengthen their commitment to inter-agency cooperation and practical action for policy establishment, carbon neutrality implementation, and support for developing countries in response to the climate crisis through the climate crisis response cooperation declaration.

Minister Han said, "As the main ministry responsible for climate change response and carbon neutrality policies, the Ministry of Environment will strive to position Korea as a leading country in climate leadership," adding, "We will also work hard to spread carbon-neutral smart water management."
