China says Quad Summit "contrary to the trend of the times, betraying the expectations of regional countries"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 24th, as the United States holds the Quad summit, a military consultation body to contain China, together with Japan, Australia, and India, China criticized it as "contrary to the trend of the times and betraying the expectations of regional countries."
Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing on the 24th, "China believes that no regional cooperation organization should target third countries or harm the interests of third countries. Creating exclusive and closed small groups targeting other countries is against the trend of the times and betrays the expectations of regional countries. It cannot win public support and will not achieve its objectives."
He also added, "China's increasing capabilities are an increase in the world's peace capabilities," and "relevant countries should accurately observe China's development and do much to help promote unity and cooperation among regional countries."
