Suncheon City Wins 'Best Award' at Jeonnam Provincial Tax Administration Workshop
Presentation on Revenue Enhancement Measures through Greenhouse Gas Emission Allowance Trading (Offset)
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 23rd that it was honored to receive the "Excellence Award" in the research project presentation at this year's Jeollanam-do Local Tax Administration Workshop hosted by Jeollanam-do.
The workshop held at Gwangyang City Culture and Arts Center was attended by 50 local tax officials from 22 cities and counties in the province. Through research and presentations on local taxes and non-tax revenue projects, it was organized to improve unreasonable systems, discover new revenue sources, expand local tax revenue, and promote the development of local tax administration.
The city researched and presented ways to increase revenue using representative natural resources owned by Suncheon City amid growing awareness of the seriousness of climate change due to various disasters such as COVID-19.
Shin Woori, a tax official (Tax Grade 9) from the Suncheon City Collection Division, received favorable evaluations for proposing a plan to secure revenue by selling carbon emission permits obtained by enhancing the natural carbon absorption functions of tidal flats and wetlands to achieve the government's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 in the research project titled "Revenue Increase Plan through Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading (Offset)."

A city official said, "This award is the result of research activities accumulated by the local tax revenue expansion research group 'Se(hwa) Hangari,' which has been studying topic selection and local tax revenue expansion plans since the beginning of the year," adding, "We will continue to improve work expertise through continuous workshops, discover various new revenue sources, and explore new collection methods."
