[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] Food columnist Hwang Kyo-ik has recently been making consecutive remarks on his Facebook regarding the 'Daejang-dong scandal' involving Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province.
Today (21st), Hwang posted on his Facebook, saying, "I see a Hwacheon Daeyu banner on the street," and added, "I thought it was a banner put up by Lee Nak-yeon's camp, but upon closer look, it was a banner of a People Power Party lawmaker." He further stated, "The 'politician's strategy' that assumes the public does not understand the concepts of capital and investment, so if you recklessly shout like that, they will think there is something wrong, has worked."
Hwang added, "According to opinion polls, surprisingly many citizens believe Hwacheon Daeyu received special favors." He argued, "The claim of a 1.6 times return on investment sounds insignificant, and the fact that the local government actively returned the development profits, which private developers could have taken all, to the local residents is being ignored."
He continued, "Those who work in organizations in Korea are always told 'Don't create unnecessary trouble' and 'Just quietly do the assigned work' as a way of coping," but "Governor Lee did not do so, and despite returning 550 billion KRW to the residents, he is being criticized for causing unnecessary trouble." He concluded, "If you are not going to work, please stay quiet," "Show generosity by entrusting work to those who do it well," and "This is the way for everyone to live well together."
