3 Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed at Gangneung Air Force Base...Total Cases Reach 14
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] Another cluster infection of breakthrough COVID-19 cases has occurred at an Air Force unit in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
According to the Air Force and the Ministry of National Defense as of 2 p.m. on the 19th, three soldiers at the Gangneung Air Force unit tested positive following diagnostic tests after contact with confirmed cases within the unit. Since the first breakthrough infections were confirmed on the 16th with two cases, the cumulative number of confirmed cases has increased to 14, including the three new cases on this day.
Among the three newly confirmed cases, one is a breakthrough infection after full vaccination, and the other two had only received the first dose.
The Air Force conducted polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on all soldiers and civilian employees at the unit, confirming that aside from the 14 positive cases as of the morning of the same day, approximately 500 individuals tested negative. The remaining 1,400 individuals are awaiting results.
