5 Million Unvaccinated Against COVID-19 to Get Another Vaccination Opportunity Starting October (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Unvaccinated individuals aged 18 and over who missed the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to get vaccinated again starting in October. The health authorities initially planned to allow unvaccinated individuals to receive the vaccine only after completing vaccinations for the entire eligible population. However, due to the continued fourth wave and the spread of the more contagious Delta variant, the need to increase vaccination rates has risen, leading to an advancement of the schedule.
On the 16th, Kim Ki-nam, Head of the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Planning Team, stated at the regular COVID-19 briefing, "Unvaccinated individuals who missed their vaccination opportunity despite being eligible can make reservations starting from the 18th of this month and receive vaccinations from October 1st."
Kim explained, "When we announced the COVID-19 vaccination plan at the end of January, we provided vaccination opportunities, but those who did not get vaccinated were to be vaccinated after completing vaccinations for the entire eligible population. So far, vaccination opportunities have been sequentially provided to all age groups aged 18 and over for at least one dose, and vaccinations for unvaccinated individuals will be promoted in line with the completion of first-dose vaccinations for those aged 18 and over by the end of this month."

Vaccinations for unvaccinated individuals aged 18 and over will be conducted at designated medical institutions nationwide from October 1st to 16th. Advance reservations will be available from 8 PM on the 18th to 6 PM on the 30th via the COVID-19 vaccination reservation website. The vaccines to be administered will be Pfizer or Moderna, with specific types individually notified according to the vaccine supply schedule. The number of unvaccinated individuals is expected to be around 5 million.
