The meeting, held under the theme of 'Sustainability of Agri-food Systems,' will be attended by agriculture ministers from G20 and invited countries, as well as high-ranking officials from international organizations, who will seek ways to realize sustainable agriculture in response to COVID-19 and the climate crisis.
The two-day meeting will be divided into five topics: ▲ Building sustainable food systems ▲ Sustainable agriculture during global health crises ▲ Research as a driving force for sustainability ▲ Cooperation to end hunger ▲ Contributions to the UN Food Systems Summit and the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). The focus is expected to be on directions for promoting sustainable agriculture.
Minister Kim will emphasize cooperation among G20 member countries to achieve common goals in the agri-food sector despite the globally challenging conditions such as COVID-19 and the climate crisis. He also plans to briefly introduce South Korea’s related policy directions, including enhancing inclusiveness in agriculture and rural areas, transitioning to eco-friendly and low-carbon agriculture, and agricultural innovation based on digital data.
As a result of the meeting, a joint declaration is expected to be adopted, containing contents such as sustainable transformation in the agri-food sector, strengthening technological and policy cooperation, and the importance of a transparent, open, and predictable multilateral trading system in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) norms. The main contents will be reflected in the joint declaration of the G20 Leaders' Summit to be held next month.
