Yoon Seok-yeol, Hong Joon-pyo, Yoo Seung-min, and 5 Others Pass People Power Party's First Presidential Primary Cutoff (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Representative Park Jin, Jang Gi-pyo, chairman of the Gimhae-eul party committee, and former Representative Jang Sung-min were eliminated in the first cut-off of the People Power Party presidential primary on the 15th.
On the day, the People Power Party's presidential election management committee narrowed down 11 presidential candidates to 8. The candidates who passed the cut-off were former Incheon Mayor Ahn Sang-soo, former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong, former Representative Yoo Seung-min, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung, Representative Ha Tae-kyung, Representative Hong Joon-pyo, and former United Future Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn.
However, the vote percentages and rankings were not disclosed. Jeong Hong-won, chairman of the election management committee who announced the cut-off list, explained, "According to Article 108, Paragraph 12 of the Public Official Election Act, the polling support rates and rankings of the preliminary primary cannot be disclosed."
The first cut-off reflected public opinion polls conducted over two days, the 13th and 14th, targeting 2,000 responsible party members and 2,000 general citizens. Party member votes accounted for 20%, and general citizen polls accounted for 80%.
Going forward, the election management committee will hold TV debates among the 8 candidates and enter the full-scale primary.

In the second cut-off on the 8th of next month, the candidates will be narrowed down to 4. The second cut-off will reflect 30% of the electorate and 70% of the national opinion poll. Afterwards, the final primary will determine the presidential candidate on November 9. In the final primary, according to the People Power Party's constitution and regulations, 50% of the electorate and 50% of the national opinion poll will be reflected. Previously, the election management committee announced plans to introduce questions assessing general election competitiveness in the final primary.
