Lee Jae-myung "Prosecutors' Power Privatization... If I Suffer Like This, Ordinary Citizens Without Connections Face Even More Injustice"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed his devastation over the 'targeted investigation' by political prosecutors aiming to end his political career. He especially emphasized that ordinary citizens without money or connections could suffer even greater injustices due to the prosecutors' privatization of power, and promised to push forward unwavering prosecutorial reform.
On the 15th, through a post titled "The Paradox of Political Prosecutors" on Facebook, Lee said, "If we lawyers are like this, how would non-legal professionals feel?" He added, "Rep. Min Byung-duk's sharp remarks during the government questioning on the 13th encapsulate both the essence of the 'commissioned accusation' suspicion and the cause of prosecutorial reform."
Earlier, on the 13th during the government questioning, Rep. Min criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, saying, "The political prosecutor group has moved beyond mere past covert operations and is now stepping forward to become president."
He particularly stated, "I stand here with the determination to declare war on political prosecutors led by Yoon Seok-youl," and lamented, "It is time to settle things with political prosecutors. At this point, it is not a matter of ruling or opposition party, but a situation where there is a separate prosecutor party, which is a disruption of national order."
In response, Governor Lee said, "Uncontrolled overwhelming power can harm anyone, and especially ordinary citizens who are 'without money, power, or connections' can suffer injustices at any time," asserting that "prosecutorial reform is what prevents this."
Furthermore, he stated, "Although the full details of the case have not yet been revealed, circumstances are emerging that the prosecution, entrusted by the people to uphold the rule of law, has forgotten its duty and conducted targeted investigations and retaliatory commissioned investigations against specific politicians," criticizing, "The prosecution, which claimed 'political neutrality' in words, has in fact become a political group privatizing power."
He continued, "Even in this devastation, I will find reasons to move forward again," emphasizing, "The more violent the rampage of political prosecutors becomes, the sooner prosecutorial reform will be realized. The public consensus that a major surgery removing the rotten parts, not a minor operation, is necessary will grow stronger, and this is precisely the paradox of political prosecutors."

Governor Lee particularly added, "All the dust-sweeping investigations aimed at ending my political life have rather proven that I have never abused my authority for personal purposes," and said, "The more they try to kill me, the more I survive, and as I have been able to persistently move forward, I will continue to fulfill my duties as a representative without wavering and will not stop (prosecutorial) reform no matter what attempts are made."
