Ahn Yusu and Ace Kyungam Chairman Donate Rice Worth 150 Million Won for Chuseok
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Ahn Yusu, Chairman of the ACE Kyungam Foundation, donated rice worth 150 million KRW to Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, in celebration of Chuseok. The donated rice, consisting of 5,840 bags of 10 kg each, will be distributed to elderly living alone and child-headed households in Seongnam City.
Since 1999, Chairman Ahn has been donating rice every Lunar New Year and Chuseok for 23 years to support marginalized neighbors. As the COVID-19 situation continues and the number of vulnerable people facing livelihood difficulties increases, he expanded the scale of support this Chuseok following last Lunar New Year, donating 5,840 bags of rice to 5,518 elderly living alone and 322 child-headed households.
Chairman Ahn’s donation activities are based on the spirit of noblesse oblige, which means "returning corporate profits to society." The purpose is to provide consistent donations rather than temporary support so that disadvantaged neighbors in society can receive practical benefits. To date, the amount of rice donated by Chairman Ahn to the local community totals over 120,000 bags of 10 kg each, equivalent to approximately 2.7 billion KRW.
Chairman Ahn said, "Chuseok is the greatest traditional holiday in our country and should be spent warmly, but I believe the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic will worsen the economic difficulties faced by vulnerable groups. I hope this rice donation will help our neighbors in need have a somewhat warmer Chuseok holiday."
