Jeonnam Fire Headquarters Holds 'Fire Commanders Video Conference' in Preparation for Typhoon Chanthu's Northward Approach
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) is making every effort to prepare for the northward approach of Typhoon No. 14, ‘Chantu’.
The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 14th that it held an ‘Emergency Fire Commanders Video Conference’.
The video conference was presided over by Fire Headquarters Chief Ma Jaeyoon, with about 130 participants including fire chiefs from the fire stations of 18 cities and counties, as well as heads of various departments and teams.
The discussion focused on emergency rescue operations and damage prevention measures by agency according to the expected typhoon path, and safety management for 150 high-risk areas was also inspected.
Chief Ma Jaeyoon instructed staff to avoid excessive on-site activities during operations and emphasized that, since it is the Chuseok holiday, there is a high risk of significant damage if flooding occurs in traditional markets, urging reinforcement of patrol personnel and thorough inspection and maintenance of flood control equipment.
He also requested strengthened patrols and response readiness in landslide-prone areas and construction sites, and stressed maintaining a multi-deployment response system to prepare for simultaneous multiple reports.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Chantu is forecasted to come closest to Jeju between dawn and morning on the 17th, one day before the Chuseok holiday, and to affect the Korean Peninsula. The Korea Meteorological Administration expects heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in Jeju and the southern regions.
