Lee Jung-mi Visiting Jeju "Opposing Construction of 2nd Airport... 100% Renewable Energy Goal by 2030"
"Prioritizing 'Value of Eco-Friendliness' in Necessary Infrastructure Development"
Promises Include Pilot Complex for Commercializing Renewable Energy, Dedicated Departments for Returning Farmers and Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Lee Jeong-mi, former leader and presidential candidate of the Justice Party, visited Jeju on the 14th and stated, "I will stop the construction of the Second Airport and realize eco-friendly urban regeneration."
On this day, Lee held a press conference at the Justice Party Jeju Provincial Party office and said, "Pursuing the construction of the Second Airport goes against the direction of becoming a carbon-neutral country and completely disregards Jeju's ecological environment and the lives of Jeju residents."
Lee raised her voice, saying, "Although the Ministry of Environment halted the project by finally rejecting the strategic environmental impact assessment report for the Jeju Second Airport construction project last July, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revealed its intention to continue the project by including the Second Airport project budget in next year's budget proposal. I firmly oppose the construction of the Jeju Second Airport." She pointed out, "Since the enactment of the Jeju International Free City Special Act in 2002, reckless development such as the Bijarim-ro road construction and mid-mountain area indiscriminate development, along with real estate speculation using these, have led to the gradual disappearance of Jeju's farmland and grassland." She emphasized, "When developing necessary infrastructure, the realization of eco-friendly values will be prioritized above all."
Lee promised to make Jeju not only a 'carbon-free island' but also an 'eco-friendly energy city.' She plans to spare no government-level support to achieve the goal of 100% conversion to renewable energy by 2030.

She continued, "Through participatory income, we will nurture urban regeneration designers and ensure they can continuously work for villages and communities." She also added, "We will implement a green participatory income system that awards points by section to local residents and tourists who practice 'carbon-zero' mobility such as walking and cycling."
In addition, to prepare for the aging farming population, she announced plans to establish a national-level department dedicated to returning to farming and rural areas, building a platform that encompasses local government resources, projects, and policies related to returning to farming and rural living.
