Kia and Tmoney Join Forces to Equip Next Year's Niro EV with 'App Meter'
Calculate fares by GPS-based vehicle location, travel distance, and travel time
Providing various services for taxi customers as well
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Kia, which plans to launch a dedicated Niro EV taxi model next year, announced on the 14th that it has partnered with the mobility and transportation payment service company 'T-money' to equip app meters and related services.
Through this business agreement, Kia will apply the T-money Hybrid App Meter to the integrated terminal of the Niro EV taxi dedicated model to be released next year.
The app meter is a technology that calculates taxi fares by determining the vehicle's location, travel distance, and travel time through the Global Positioning System (GPS). This differs from the existing electric meter, which calculates fares using electric signals based on wheel rotations.
In particular, the T-money Hybrid App Meter to be applied to next year's Niro EV taxi dedicated model primarily uses GPS but can calculate distance based on wheel rotations in areas where GPS reception is somewhat unstable, such as tunnels and underground parking lots, minimizing errors.
Kia expects that taxi operators will be able to reduce costs related to purchasing and repairing electric meters, fare updates, and inspections by using the app meter, while also providing innovative services to passengers.
Starting with the collaboration to equip the app meter, Kia plans to form and operate a regular consultative body with T-money to provide various services that enhance convenience for both taxi operators and passengers, including payment and call services.
