Ministry of the Interior and Safety to Hold 'Safety Innovation Forum' on the 15th Amid Rapidly Changing Disaster Environment
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 14th that it will hold a 'Safety Innovation Forum' on the 15th under the overall theme of 'Future Vision of Disaster Safety.' The forum will be divided into a common session in the morning and three individual sessions in the afternoon, inviting domestic and international experts in the field of disaster safety to discuss various disaster safety issues.
In the morning common session, under the theme 'The Direction of the Disaster Safety Industry in the Post-COVID Era,' experts in disaster safety from home and abroad and leaders of digital safety New Deal companies will be invited for keynote presentations and panel discussions. The session will be moderated by Jeong Gwan-yong, a special professor at Kookmin University known for hosting various TV current affairs discussions. Lee Kyung-sang, a professor at the Graduate School of Future Strategy at KAIST and author of 'The Future After COVID-19,' will present on the topic 'The Meeting of COVID-19 and AI, the New Normal of Disaster Safety.'
Additionally, prominent domestic disaster safety experts such as Professor Song Chang-young of Gwangju University, Kim Sang-cheol, chairman of Hancom, recently recognized as a digital safety New Deal company from a software firm, and Sanjaya Bhatia, director of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Northeast Asia Office, will participate as panelists to continue the discussion.
In the afternoon, three individual sessions will be held: the '25th Disaster Safety Seminar' by the National Disaster Safety Research Institute of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the '20th International Disaster Cooperation Seminar,' and the 'MCR2030 Seminar' by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Northeast Asia Office. The '25th Disaster Safety Seminar' will begin with a keynote lecture on 'Strengthening the Expertise of Future Disaster Safety Personnel' by Professor Bang Ki-seong of Kyungwoon University, followed by presentations of overseas cases by Choi Ho-jin, research fellow at the Korea Institute of Public Administration, Professor Kim Yoon-hee of Dong-Eui University, Professor Yang Ki-geun of Wonkwang University, and Professor Lee Won-ho of Kwangwoon University, concluding with a comprehensive discussion.
At the '20th International Disaster Cooperation Seminar,' the keynote lecture titled 'COVID Response and Post-Pandemic Disaster Management Directions' will be delivered by Professor Kim Gye-jo, former head of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and currently at Changwon University. This will be followed by presentations from Professor Robert Peterson of the University of Texas at Austin, Professor Yuichi Ono of Tohoku University, research fellow Ryu Hyun-sook of the Korea Institute of Public Administration, and Professor Jeong Ji-beom of UNIST.
During the 'MCR2030 Seminar,' a UN project aimed at building cities resilient to climate change and disasters, a UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction official will present on the core strategies and directions of 'MCR2030.' Case presentations from exemplary MCR2030 cities domestically and internationally, including Incheon, Ulsan Metropolitan City, and Dubai, will follow. There will also be presentations and discussions on institutionalizing school safety programs, a practical task of MCR2030.
Lee Seung-woo, head of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters, stated, "In the rapidly changing disaster environment, it is necessary to seek a new paradigm of disaster safety management different from the past to protect the lives and safety of our people and humanity." He added, "I hope this forum will serve as an opportunity to find clues to the answers we are seeking and establish a better future vision for disaster safety."
