The event took place at Woori Financial headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, with Chairman Sohn Tae-seung in attendance.
Athlete Jeon Woong-tae is the first South Korean modern pentathlon medalist to win a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which concluded last August. Modern pentathlon is a competition where the total score is determined by combining points from five events: fencing, swimming, equestrian, athletics, and shooting.
Woori Financial Group decided to sponsor the athlete, focusing on the characteristic of modern pentathlon that requires balanced skills across all events rather than specializing in a particular discipline, aligning with Woori Financial’s direction of balanced, sustainable, and global growth across all group companies.
Additionally, Jeon Woong-tae was highly praised for demonstrating South Korea’s potential on the global stage by winning the Olympic medal in a sport previously dominated by foreign athletes.
Woori Financial plans to provide long-term support so that Jeon Woong-tae can focus solely on training for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games as well as the 2024 Paris Olympics.
