Chungnam, Seocheon Yubudo and Other Coastal Erosion Areas Under Intensive Management
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province will intensively manage coastal erosion areas within its jurisdiction.
The province announced on the 14th that it plans to monitor and sequentially maintain the coastal erosion areas identified through the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' "Coastal Erosion Status Survey."
The status survey is conducted annually by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to understand and analyze the current state of coastal erosion caused by frequent typhoons and high waves due to climate change, as well as artificial structures installed along the coast.
In Chungnam, 22 coastal sites were included in the survey, of which 14 sites were classified as lower grade (coastal erosion areas).
The province plans to categorize these coastal erosion areas into ▲ 8 sites reflected in the 3rd Basic Coastal Maintenance Plan (Boryeong Janggo-do, Seocheon Yubu-do·Dodun, Taean Eoeundol·Unyeo·Sinduri·Mallipo·Baeksajang) ▲ 3 sites managed by the Korea National Park Service (Taean Cheongpodae·Gurye-po·Hakampo) ▲ 3 sites requiring continuous monitoring and analysis (Boryeong Hakseong·Muchangpo, Taean Uihang), and establish and manage plans accordingly.
Additionally, 8 sites rated as normal grade (Boryeong Daecheon, Seocheon Dasa·Songnim, Hongseong Sanghwang·Namdang, Taean Kkotji·Byeongsulman·Yeonbangjugol) will also be continuously maintained and managed.

An official from the province stated, "When promoting the 3rd Coastal Maintenance Project, we will apply priorities to coastal erosion areas and develop research projects on changes in the Chungnam coastline and sand movement to establish measures that fundamentally solve coastal erosion problems. Above all, to prevent damage to local residents caused by coastline reduction and wave overtopping due to erosion, we will cooperate with related organizations to create a safe coastal environment."
