[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The second-in-command of the Israeli government has attracted attention by presenting a development plan for the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
According to the daily Haaretz and others on the 13th (local time), Foreign Minister Yair Lapid attended an anti-terror conference held at Reichman University the day before and stated regarding the Gaza Strip, governed by the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, "The policies such as commercial restrictions maintained since the withdrawal of settlements from the Gaza Strip in 2005 have failed to prevent attacks by armed groups including Hamas."
Minister Yair is the leader of 'Yesh Atid,' one of the eight parties forming the Israeli coalition cabinet, and is a politician scheduled to succeed Prime Minister Naftali Bennett (of Yamina) in September 2023.
He mentioned the development of Gaza in terms of electricity, gas, and water production, saying, "Let us remind that the situation of Gaza residents struggling with poverty, fear, violence, and unemployment is due to Hamas' rule."

However, Minister Yair emphasized that this proposal does not imply dialogue with Hamas, stating, "A policy that exchanges economy for security will bring stability to both borders."
