Meeting 500 Startups and 200 Experts Online... Seoul City Hosts 'Try Everything 2021'
Seoul City to Hold Audience-Free Event for 3 Days from 15th to 17th, Expanded Scale Compared to Last Year... Live Broadcast on YouTube
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Over 200 members of the startup ecosystem, including entrepreneurs and investors from 15 countries such as the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, will gather both online and offline in one place.
On the 13th, Seoul City announced that the global startup festival "Try Everything," which brings together promising startups, investors, and accelerators from around the world, will be held under the slogan "JUMP UP! SCALE UP" from the 15th to the 17th at the Shilla Hotel Seoul and the National Theater's Haneul Theater.
This year, the event has expanded in scale, with about 500 startups participating and a total of 91 scale-up and global expansion-focused startup specialized programs being operated. "Try Everything 2021" is organized and operated around three core keywords: providing insights for startups, global growth of startups, and spreading the startup ecosystem.
First, on the 16th, keynote speakers for Try Everything 2021 include Jason Schenker, author of the bestseller "The World After Corona" and the world's top futurist selected by Bloomberg and chairman of the Futurist Institute, and Stefan Trojansky, CEO of Scanline VFX and an expert in visual effects industries such as the movies Avengers and Aquaman, who will share their vision on startup innovation.
Additionally, Peter Diamandis, chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation and an innovative entrepreneur who has founded more than 20 high-tech companies and is spotlighted by Silicon Valley, will give a lecture titled "Technologies That Will Change the Future According to the Godfather of Silicon Valley." Hans Tung, managing partner of GGV, and Hemant Taneja, managing partner of General Catalyst, will participate in a "Global Top VC Dialogue," delivering new global insights to domestic startups.
Chris Urmson, co-founder of the autonomous driving startup Aurora, will provide insights on autonomous driving and transportation revolution in the session "Autonomous Driving Technology and New Mobility," while JF Gauthier, CEO of Startup Genome, a global startup ecosystem analysis organization, will introduce "Seoul's Strategy to Enter the Global Top 5 Startup Ecosystems."
Each company's "Open Innovation" program will also be held, where startups can receive know-how, investment attraction, joint solution development, and global expansion support from global corporations. Starting with Haier on the 15th, on the 16th, Binggrae, OB Beer, S-oil, Mercedes-Benz Korea, and Kyowon will seek promising startups for technology exchange and investment. The selected startups will receive commercialization support funds and investment opportunities from the companies and be provided with office space at Seoul Startup Hub.
Furthermore, a policy-sharing session will be held to share cases from countries such as India, Vietnam, and the UK, review the development status of the global startup ecosystem, and explore future directions. On the 15th, following last year, Nguyen Man Cuong, head of the Southern Branch of the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology, will attend online to present "Vietnam Startup Ecosystem and Outstanding Startup Achievements in Vietnam Expansion." On the 16th, the "Global Startup Policy Roundtable" will include embassies from India, Vietnam, the UK, Canada, France, and Australia, seeking cooperation plans to activate each country's startup achievements and the global startup ecosystem.
On the 17th, sessions such as "Global Unicorn Cases," featuring FiscalNote CEO Tim Hwang, Moloco CEO An Ik-jin, and Primer Saje Partners CEO Lee Ki-ha, who will share success stories of Korean entrepreneurs growing into unicorns in the U.S., and "Korea Going Global," where Jeffrey Lee, co-founder of NLVC, will discuss global expansion strategies for startups, will be held.

Hwang Bo-yeon, Director of Seoul City's Economic Policy Office, said, "Try Everything is a festival for innovators who can add dynamism to our startup ecosystem by bringing together investors and entrepreneurs from various fields even amid the COVID-19 situation," adding, "We will provide opportunities to prepare a new future for startups that need innovation and a spirit of challenge by building diverse cooperation networks, discovering innovative startups with potential, and supporting their overseas expansion."
