COVID-19 New Cases 1,755... Second Largest Weekend Figure Ever Recorded

The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) reported that as of midnight on this day, 1,755 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the total to 272,982. This is 110 fewer than the previous day (1,865), dropping below 1,800.
The number of new confirmed cases on this day is the highest among Saturday cases (announced on Sunday) in the past four weeks (1,626 → 1,619 → 1,490 → 1,755). It is the second highest following the weekend record of 1,816 on the 15th of last month. The daily confirmed cases have remained in the four-digit range for 68 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211).
By infection route, 1,725 cases were locally transmitted, and 30 were imported. Among local transmissions, Seoul reported 656 cases, Gyeonggi 481, and Incheon 146, totaling 1,283 cases (74.4%) in the metropolitan area. Non-metropolitan areas reported 442 cases (25.6%) including Chungnam 77, Daegu 62, Daejeon 45, Gyeongnam 44, Busan and Chungbuk 43 each, Ulsan 34, Gwangju 26, Gyeongbuk 19, Gangwon 17, Jeonbuk 14, Jeonnam 11, Sejong 4, and Jeju 3.
The number of imported cases was 30, 19 fewer than the previous day (49). Among these, 8 were identified during airport or port quarantine, and the remaining 22 tested positive during self-isolation at their residences or temporary living facilities in Gyeonggi (7), Seoul, Incheon, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongnam (2 each), and Gwangju, Gyeongbuk, Jeju (1 each).
The presumed countries of origin for these imported cases are Uzbekistan (6), Russia (5), Mongolia (4), the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Cambodia (2 each), China, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Nepal, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Egypt (1 each). Among them, 6 are Korean nationals and 24 are foreigners.
Combining local transmissions and imported cases (excluding quarantine), the metropolitan area totals 1,294 cases: Seoul 658, Gyeonggi 488, and Incheon 148. Confirmed cases were reported across all 17 provinces nationwide.
The number of deaths increased by 1 from the previous day, totaling 2,359. The domestic average fatality rate stands at 0.86%. The number of critically ill patients is 351, down by 1 from the previous day (352).
As of this day, 1,499 patients were released from isolation, bringing the total to 244,459, while those currently in isolation treatment increased by 255 to a total of 26,164. The number of suspected cases tested at screening clinics on the previous day was 38,713, which is 11,692 fewer than the 50,405 tests conducted the day before. Separately, a total of 69,270 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics nationwide.
The total number of COVID-19 diagnostic tests conducted at domestic screening clinics is 13,704,176, of which 272,982 were positive and 12,527,750 were negative. The remaining 910,419 tests are awaiting results.
