The 1st IWS Korea World Watercolor Hamyang Biennale Exhibition Opening Ceremony Held
During the Expo, 640 Famous Artists from 47 Countries Participate
Rich Events Including Watercolor Demonstrations, Exhibitions, and Forums
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the morning of the opening day of the 2021 Hamyang Wild Ginseng Anti-Aging Expo, the Hamyang Cultural and Arts Center in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, held the opening ceremony of the "1st IWS World Watercolor Hamyang Biennale."
The event was held on the 10th with the participation of Seo Chun-soo, the county governor, Hwang Tae-jin, chairman of the county council, Kim Jae-woong, member of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council, Noh Ki-chang, head of the Nonghyup Bank Hamyang branch, Kang Seong-gap, president of the Hamyang Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organizations, as well as Lee Sang-nam, advisor of the Korea Watercolor Association, and So Hoon, chairman, among others.
A total of 120 award-winning works are exhibited in the exhibition hall of the Hamyang Cultural and Arts Center until the 16th, and advance reservation is required for viewing in accordance with quarantine rules.
This event, held during the Expo period to promote communication and exchange of world culture and arts, is organized by the IWS (International Watercolor Society) Korea Headquarters (IWS Korea President Park Yu-mi) and the Korea Watercolor Association, and will run for 31 days from the 10th to October 10th.
The World Watercolor Biennale, held for the first time in Korea, features about 640 artists from 47 countries participating both in-person and online, with the theme "The Beauty of Life (生命之美 - The Beauty of Life)." The program includes exhibitions, award ceremonies, master demonstrations, watercolor academies, and watercolor forums.
On the 11th, a watercolor academy (10:00?15:00) will be held at Sangnim Ecological Lotus Pond Road, followed by live demonstrations by famous domestic artists such as Yoon Joo-chul on the permanent stage (15:00?17:00), an award ceremony for IWS online judged winning works, and the Biennale opening ceremony.
On the 12th, a 100-meter collaborative painting event themed on the scenery of Hamyang will be held with participation from domestic artists and citizens.
On the 13th and 14th, videos of demonstrations by famous foreign artists will be shown, and on the 15th, a watercolor forum will take place. From the 17th, the exhibited works at the Cultural and Arts Center will be moved to Hamyang Yongchu Art Valley and displayed until October 10th.
Governor Seo said, "It is very meaningful to hold the World Watercolor Hamyang Biennale to commemorate the Expo," adding, "Although it is regrettable that we can only meet world-famous artists through videos due to COVID-19, this Biennale has made the Expo shine even more and has become an opportunity to introduce Hamyang to the world."
