Gokseong-gun Wins Grand Prize at 2021 Manifesto Competition
Great Achievement in Selecting Two Fields: Electronic Democracy and Educational Community
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced on the 10th that it has been honored to receive the highest awards in both the e-democracy and community strengthening categories at the 2021 Manifesto Best Practice Competition.
The Manifesto Best Practice Competition has been held since 2007 under the auspices of the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters, a non-profit organization, to share and spread excellent pledges and policy cases of local government heads nationwide.
This year’s competition saw a total of 376 cases across 7 categories submitted from 159 local governments nationwide. After the first document screening, 209 excellent cases were selected to compete in the second main competition.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the competition was conducted online. Gokseong-gun submitted the case “Untact Era, On-tact Gokseong Seen with Eyes and Heard with Ears!” in the e-democracy strengthening category and “An Educational Ecosystem Growing through Solidarity and Cooperation, Realizing a Mature Community” in the community strengthening category.
In the e-democracy strengthening category, Gokseong-gun’s policy of establishing an IoT living information system centered on village halls and bus stops this year received high scores.
The county installed touch monitors in 270 village halls and set up information kiosks on county buses and at bus stops to provide various living information and county bus details.
Additionally, wireless internet service is supported in village halls to allow convenient access to county administration and other living information anytime and anywhere, receiving positive responses from residents.
In the community strengthening category, the case of creating a future education foundation jointly by the county, the education support office, and the private sector?the first of its kind among local governments nationwide?to foster a regional education community growing together was highly evaluated.
Launched in 2020, the Future Education Foundation is building a Gokseong-type talent cultivation and sustainable educational ecosystem through creative programs such as Dream Play School, Dream Growth Maru, Gokseong Study Abroad, operation of the county youth orchestra, growth support platform operation, career and academic guidance, village-level education governance establishment, and ecological environment education.
Recognizing the achievements through this evaluation, the county plans to strengthen an educational system that circulates from children to adults and further activate the public-private-academic cooperation system to create an educational community where everyone is a subject of education, leading to happy growth.
