View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The number of new domestic COVID-19 cases, which had been in the 2,000s for two consecutive days, dropped back to the 1,800s on the 10th. However, the spread continues mainly in the 수도권 (Seoul Metropolitan Area), with three out of four locally transmitted cases concentrated there.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters, as of midnight on the 10th, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1,892 from the previous day, totaling 269,362. Of these, 1,857 were locally transmitted cases, and 35 were imported cases.
Locally transmitted cases in the 수도권 were recorded as 666 in Seoul, 603 in Gyeonggi, and 117 in Incheon, totaling 1,386. Although the two-day streak of cases in the 1,400s has stopped, the proportion of cases in the 수도권 among the total confirmed cases surged to 74.6%. Outside the 수도권, Chungnam reported 77 cases due to recent cluster infections. This was followed by Daejeon with 48, Gyeongnam and Daegu with 44 each, Ulsan 40, Busan 38, Gangwon 33, Chungbuk 30, Gyeongbuk 27, Gwangju 25, Jeonbuk 24, Jeonnam 20, Jeju 17, and Sejong 4.
The number of tests conducted the previous day exceeded 140,000. Nearly 80,000 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics set up in the 수도권, confirming 466 positive cases, while 16,674 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics outside the 수도권, confirming 47 positive cases.
The number of critically ill patients decreased by 13 from the previous day to 353. The cumulative death toll increased by 5 to 2,348.

Meanwhile, according to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 438,346 people newly received their first vaccine dose the previous day. The cumulative number of first-dose recipients reached 32,149,176. The first-dose vaccination rate stood at 62.6%. Based on the adult population aged 18 and over eligible for vaccination, 72.8% have completed their first dose. Additionally, 290,902 people newly completed their vaccination, bringing the total number of fully vaccinated individuals to 19,406,809, with a vaccination completion rate of 37.8% of the population.
