Japan Decides to Extend COVID-19 State of Emergency in the Capital Region Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Kyodo News reported on the 8th that the Japanese government will decide on the extension of the COVID-19 state of emergency issued in the metropolitan area and other regions on the 9th.
According to the report, among the 47 prefectures (metropolitan governments) in Japan, a COVID-19 state of emergency aimed at suppressing population movement has been issued in 21 prefectures.
The extension of the state of emergency issued in four metropolitan prefectures in the Tokyo metropolitan area including Tokyo, three Tokai metropolitan prefectures including Aichi Prefecture, and three Kansai metropolitan prefectures including Osaka Prefecture is being considered.
The extension is expected to be as short as two weeks and as long as about one month.
Moriyama Hiroshi, the LDP Parliamentary Countermeasures Committee Chairman, and Azumi Jun, the Constitutional Democratic Party Parliamentary Countermeasures Committee Chairman, agreed on the 9th to receive a report on the extension of the state of emergency at the House of Representatives and House of Councillors Steering Committees in the afternoon.
