Jeongeup-si to Distribute 'Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' Local Currency Before Chuseok
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do Province, will pay 6.5 billion KRW in public interest allowances to farmers and fishermen to revitalize the local economy before Chuseok.
The city announced on the 7th that the public interest allowance of 600,000 KRW per farm household will be paid in the form of the "Jeonghyangnuri Gift Certificate" (card, mobile) to promote coexistence with local small business owners.
To this end, on the 27th of last month, the final list of 10,928 eligible recipients of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen was confirmed, and payments are scheduled to begin on the 8th.
The public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen, first implemented last year, is a system designed to preserve and enhance the public functions of agriculture, fisheries, and rural areas, thereby creating a sustainable rural environment and improving the quality of life for farmers and fishermen.
It has been promoted for two years based on solving rural issues such as population decline and aging, as a pledge project of Mayor Yoo Jin-seop during the 7th local government administration.
Eligible recipients are farm households registered as agricultural management entities with an address in the province for more than two years, who are actually engaged in farming, with a farming scale of at least 1,000㎡.
This year, newly included recipients are beekeeping farms and fishing farms.
Beekeeping farms must have registered their beekeeping business with the city or county in the province by December 31 of last year, and fishing farms must have had a resident registration address in Jeollabuk-do for more than two years as of January 1 of this year and maintained fishing management entity registration for more than two years.
Farms with comprehensive income other than agriculture exceeding 37 million KRW, farms restricted from subsidy payments, and farms subject to administrative sanctions due to illegal burning, etc., are excluded.
Among the farms selected as recipients this year, those who received the allowance in the form of Jeonghyangnuri Gift Certificates last year will receive automatic payment without the need for membership registration.
New farms or those not registered for the Jeonghyangnuri Gift Certificate can receive the public interest allowance by visiting a local Nonghyup branch to issue a Jeonghyangnuri Gift Certificate card or by installing the mobile app and registering as a member.
The city expects that the allowance payment will greatly help stabilize the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen who have suffered due to COVID-19 and revitalize the depressed local economy.
Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "I hope the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen will be a small comfort to those going through difficult times due to COVID-19," and added, "By paying before Chuseok, we will inject vitality into the weakened local economy and strive to make it a warm holiday."
