[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 7th that it will promote the artificial intelligence (AI) free education project “Digico KT AI Innovation School (tentative name)” for young job seekers to solve the national issue of employment and enhance job competitiveness.
KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo held an on-site meeting with Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum at the KT Research and Development Center in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, emphasizing the plan to train 1,200 AI personnel annually, totaling 3,600 by 2024.
KT will newly launch the Digico KT AI Innovation School to nurture AI specialists and improve the competitiveness of students in provincial areas who lack opportunities for advanced technology education such as AI. The plan is to utilize the experience and know-how from the AI expert training program “AI Academy” for young job seekers launched in 2018, the advanced “4th Industrial Academy,” and the employee reskilling program “Future Talent Development Project.”
The AI Innovation School will operate a five-month customized free education program for university students and young job seekers, including coding education and project practice using AI and DX (Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation) technologies. KT will select 200 students annually per each of its six metropolitan headquarters as bases, starting this December, aiming to nurture a total of 3,600 local talents by 2024.
The recruitment fields are AI developers and DX consultants. Outstanding graduates of the AI Innovation School will be linked to KT’s internship program with a path to full-time employment after completing the internship.
Along with this, the KT Group plans to significantly expand new hires centered on Digico in software (SW) development, IT design, and security over three years from 2022 to 2024. Through this event, KT became the first domestic company to participate in the government-led “Youth Hope ON” project and joined the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s “Youth Employment Support Membership” as the seventh company to support youth employment.
Prime Minister Kim said, “A country where young people cannot have hope has no future,” emphasizing, “Providing warm (溫) jobs to youth and creating a sustainable society where youth challenges continue (On-Going) is the responsibility of companies, government, and our community.”
