Justice Party Files Complaint Against Song Young-gil on 7th... "Weekend Democratic Party Regional Primary Violates Quarantine Rules"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party announced that it will file a complaint against Song Young-gil, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for allegedly violating quarantine guidelines during the Democratic Party’s regional primary elections held in the Chungcheong area on the 4th and 5th.
On the 6th, the Justice Party stated that it will submit the complaint against Leader Song at the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul at 2 p.m. on the 7th. The party explained the reason for the complaint, saying, "The accused held and conducted a gathering without implementing safety and preventive measures, violating Article 49, Paragraph 1 of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act," and added, "Therefore, according to Article 80 of the same law, punishment should be imposed, and we request a thorough investigation."
Earlier that morning, the Justice Party had warned that if Yang Kyung-soo, the chairman of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), was not released during the detention review, they would file a complaint against Leader Song.
At the leadership meeting that day, Representative Yeo Young-guk said, "If the KCTU chairman is not released during today’s detention review, we will seriously consider filing a complaint against Democratic Party Leader Song, who violated quarantine guidelines under the pretext of the presidential election campaign, and the Commissioner of the National Police Agency who neglected this."
Representative Yeo emphasized, "The law must be enforced fairly," adding, "We can no longer tolerate this cruel society where workers’ demands for the president to keep promises are met with the detention of their representative on the grounds of violating COVID-19 quarantine guidelines. If the KCTU chairman is not released during today’s detention review, we will consider filing complaints against Leader Song for violating quarantine guidelines and the Police Commissioner for dereliction of duty."

Gang Min-jin, leader of the Youth Justice Party, also raised her voice, stating, "The principles of quarantine must be applied equally without privilege." She criticized, "Is it acceptable for the Democratic Party to hold a 'mass joint rally' for its own needs without any problem, while workers driven to the brink amid a severe economic crisis are treated as serious criminals requiring the deployment of 3,000 police officers to detain the union chairman?" She urged, "The government should not only focus on the presidential election campaign but also consider guaranteeing citizens’ freedom of assembly."
