Apple App Store Policy Changes, Minimal Impact on Revenue... Maintaining Core Profits
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Apple recently attempted some changes to its App Store commission policy in response to criticism, but evaluations suggest that the impact on revenue is minimal and the core profits are being maintained.
On the 5th (local time), the US CNBC reported that while some recent revisions to Apple's App Store regulations may appear as changes, looking at the history of the App Store, these concessions by Apple are a continuation of the strategy since the App Store's launch in 2008.
In other words, the "core profit"?Apple's authority to decide the software that runs on the iPhone and to set the financial terms imposed on software developers?remains unchanged.
Also, for game apps, which account for the largest portion of App Store revenue, the 30% commission rule still applies. Regarding this, Sameek Chatterjee, a JP Morgan analyst, evaluated, "Allowing email explanations for external payment methods will not have a significant impact on Apple's financial statements, and the 15% commission adjustment for small-scale apps will also have a minimal effect."
Earlier, amid growing controversy over mandatory in-app payments, Apple recently took a series of easing measures, including reducing commissions for businesses with annual sales under $1 million (from 30% to 15%), allowing email guidance on external payment methods, and permitting individual homepage links for some apps.
