Gwangju Seo-gu Council Passes 'Basic Ordinance on Resource Circulation'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that the "Basic Ordinance on Resource Circulation in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," which was proposed by Councilor Ko Kyung-ae, was reviewed and approved at the Social and Urban Committee of the 298th extraordinary session on the 3rd.
The ordinance contains provisions necessary to efficiently use resources to suppress the generation of waste, recycle the generated waste to reduce energy consumption, and preserve the environment.
It includes the basic direction and the relationship with other ordinances, the responsibilities of the district mayor and the establishment of execution plans, resource circulation statistical surveys, and matters related to promotion and education. The final review and approval will take place at the 2nd plenary session on the 10th.
Councilor Ko said, "The ordinance stipulates necessary matters to create a sustainable resource circulation system by suppressing waste generation and properly recycling or maximizing the use of generated waste as energy," adding, "I hope all citizens of Gwangju will strive for the transition to a resource circulation society."
