Jinju City Cancels Jinju International Agri-Food Expo Again This Year
Canceled Unavoidably to Prevent COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 3rd that it has decided to abruptly cancel the 2021 Jinju International Agro-Food Expo, which was scheduled to be held for five days starting November 3rd, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The city judged that it would be difficult to completely block the infectious disease due to the nature of the expo, where an unspecified large number of people gather indoors to view and experience exhibits, as the spread continues with an increase in confirmed cases caused by the Delta variant during the 4th wave and breakthrough infection cases. Therefore, it decided to cancel the event inevitably for the safety of visitors.
The city reviewed various ways to operate the expo according to social distancing levels, including a hybrid online and offline format until the last moment, but ultimately decided to fully cancel the event this year as well, following last year, due to concerns about budget waste and effectiveness issues.
The Jinju International Agro-Food Expo is a representative international expo in Korea, attracting more than 300,000 domestic and international visitors annually. Since its first event in 2011, it has achieved a cumulative attendance of 3.4 million and agricultural product export consultations worth 345.9 billion KRW, greatly contributing to the development of Gyeongnam’s agro-food industry and export expansion.
