Gwangju Seo-gu Council Holds First-ever 'Ethics Special Committee' Since Inauguration
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the morning of the 3rd at 10 a.m. that the Ethics Special Committee (Chairman Kim Ok-su) held the first-ever Ethics Special Committee meeting since the opening of the Seo-gu Council.
This Ethics Committee shared materials on the functions and roles of the Ethics Special Committee and cases from other local councils, and had an in-depth discussion on how to operate the committee going forward.
In particular, after heated debate, it was decided to review later issues such as violations of civil servant personnel regulations, allegations of exemption from parking fines, private misuse of council souvenirs, ongoing court cases, restrictions on members' speaking rights and the consequent occupation of the chairman's seat, and false records of volunteer work.
Kim Ok-su, Chairman of the Ethics Special Committee, expressed regret that “the committee had never held a meeting since its formation,” and said, “The proper operation of the Ethics Special Committee is essential for local council members to maintain awareness and fulfill their duties as council members.”
He added, “The Seo-gu Council Ethics Special Committee plans to strengthen ethical reviews in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Practice Standards to uphold the council’s own honor and authority and establish a council image trusted by citizens.”
