[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 3rd that it held a leadership town hall meeting to share key achievements for the second quarter and strategic tasks for the second half of the year.
The town hall meeting was conducted online for leaders, hosted by CEO of Management Support Kang Han-seung and attended by Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Harold Rogers. This was the first town hall meeting led by CEO Kang, organized to assess Coupang's current performance and share future strategic directions and vision with the leaders.
CEO Kang first shared the second quarter business performance. He stated, "In the second quarter of this year, sales increased by 71% compared to the same period last year, surpassing 4.5 billion dollars, continuing our 'rocket growth,'" and emphasized, "Coupang attracted 43% of the direct investment that South Korea secured from the United States in the first half of the year, investing in regional logistics centers and creating 5,000 new jobs."
He also mentioned the growth potential of new services. CEO Kang said, "Delighting customers in new areas is Coupang's fundamental strategic model," adding, "In particular, Coupang Eats, which grew about threefold in sales during the second quarter through continuous investment, and Rocket Fresh, whose sales more than doubled compared to the previous year, are receiving attention."

CEO Kang further explained that Coupang has established industry-leading working conditions and environments. He said, "Coupang operates a direct employment system for delivery personnel, which no one else in the industry has attempted, to create a safer and healthier working environment," and added, "All these innovations are part of our efforts to provide the best experience to our customers."
