The 2021 University Basic Competency Diagnosis is an evaluation that diagnoses elements that higher education institutions must have, such as educational conditions and academic management, every three years. It is the successor to the first cycle ‘University Structure Reform Evaluation’ conducted in 2015.
A total of 285 universities participated in this University Basic Competency Diagnosis, and 233 universities were selected as General Financial Support Universities, including 136 general universities and 97 junior colleges.
Yeongnam Institute of Science and Technology received favorable evaluations in quantitative indicators such as ▲achievement of development plans ▲educational conditions ▲accountability in university management ▲curriculum operation and industry-academia cooperation ▲student support ▲educational outcomes, as well as qualitative indicators.
Following its selection as an autonomous improvement university (General Financial Support University) in the 2018 University Basic Competency Diagnosis, Yeongnam Institute of Science and Technology was again selected as a General Financial Support University in the 2021 evaluation. It will receive support for innovation projects for three years from 2022 to 2024 and will promote autonomous innovation and appropriate scaling in connection with this.
The university has made multifaceted efforts over the past three years to keep pace with the rapidly changing university education environment, including student-centered educational support and academic structure reform, significant expansion of educational expenses, innovative academic structure reform, and the introduction of advanced curricula.
Previously, Yeongnam Institute of Science and Technology was recognized for its university competitiveness and educational capabilities by being the only nationwide selection for the ‘2021 Industrial Field Exploration and Job Mentoring Project for High School Students’ and being selected for the ‘Leading Specialized Junior College Support Project in New Industry Fields’ and other major government-supported projects.
President Jaeyong Lee of Yeongnam Institute of Science and Technology said, “Following the selection for various government support projects, this selection as a General Financial Support University is the result of the concerted efforts of all university members.” He added, “We will take the lead in presenting the future direction of higher education through the establishment of various new departments suited to the times and the operation of student-centered curricula.”
